The secure and efficient exchange of health data is a cornerstone for achieving standard-based interoperable healthcare systems in Europe.
The workshop “Advanced Technologies for Logging and Sharing Health Data” in MIE2025, supported by the XiA project and the xShare project, will engage in exploration through practical demonstration and discussion of advanced technologies enabling secure logging and sharing of health data, with a focus on blockchain, eID, legal frameworks, and innovative user-centric tools like the xShare Yellow Button.
The workshop explores innovative technologies enabling secure logging and sharing of health data, including blockchain, eID mechanisms (e.g., EUDI Wallet), and user-centric tools like the xShare Button. It draws inspiration from the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation’s Logging Component and the potential of distributed ledger technology (DLT) to address cross-jurisdictional data sharing challenges. Led by a multidisciplinary panel of experts, the workshop will combine technical insights, legal frameworks, and practical demonstrations to educate attendees.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of DLT’s role in ensuring data traceability, transparency, and security, along with the regulatory mechanisms underpinning compliance. The session will include an educative demonstration of the xShare button and a blockchain (DLT) application showcasing their real-world applicability in health data sharing. The preview of user-centric tools and strategies will allow participants to engage in productive discussion on the consistent implementation of the xShare button in EHDS through adoption/implementation kit. Participants will explore challenges and opportunities for scaling these technologies, with a focus on fostering collaboration among patients, healthcare providers, policymakers, and technical stakeholders.
Attendees will leave with actionable insights on how to drive the adoption of advanced health data technologies within the EHDS framework and beyond, thus enhancing the capacity of healthcare providers, health IT provider enterprises and other individuals that actively shape our health systems to embrace a culture of interoperability within the EHDS framework.
